Sabia da import\u00e2ncia da preven\u00e7\u00e3o, mas manter uma rotina di\u00e1ria nem sempre era f\u00e1cil.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Chefe de um agregado familiar de cinco pessoas, incluindo um filho de dois anos, Isa pertence a um grupo populacional com maior risco de exposi\u00e7\u00e3o ao HIV. Foi atrav\u00e9s de actores comunit\u00e1rios da C-Sa\u00fade e de uma campanha televisiva que ouviu falar, pela primeira vez, do lenacapavir. Curiosa sobre uma alternativa que dispensava a toma di\u00e1ria de comprimidos, procurou mais informa\u00e7\u00f5es no Centro de Sa\u00fade de Chabeco, em Quelimane.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hoje integra o primeiro grupo de pessoas na Zamb\u00e9zia a beneficiar desta nova forma de PrEP inject\u00e1vel de longa dura\u00e7\u00e3o: <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Para Isa, a mudan\u00e7a significa menos preocupa\u00e7\u00e3o com a medica\u00e7\u00e3o, menos desloca\u00e7\u00f5es \u00e0 unidade sanit\u00e1ria e maior facilidade para conciliar o trabalho com os cuidados do filho e a restante fam\u00edlia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Com apenas duas administra\u00e7\u00f5es por ano, o lenacapavir oferece uma alternativa de longa dura\u00e7\u00e3o e discreta para a preven\u00e7\u00e3o do HIV. Ap\u00f3s a primeira injec\u00e7\u00e3o, os utentes fazem um curto esquema de PrEP oral durante um total de tr\u00eas dias, at\u00e9 que o medicamento atinja n\u00edveis protectores. A partir da\u00ed, cada injec\u00e7\u00e3o garante seis meses de protec\u00e7\u00e3o. O lenacapavir tem uma efic\u00e1cia demonstrada superior a 99,9% na preven\u00e7\u00e3o da infec\u00e7\u00e3o pelo HIV quando utilizado de acordo com as recomenda\u00e7\u00f5es. Uma resposta constru\u00edda em conjunto<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Quando as primeiras 17 unidades sanit\u00e1rias iniciaram a oferta de lenacapavir na Zamb\u00e9zia, em Abril de 2026, esse momento era o resultado de v\u00e1rios meses de prepara\u00e7\u00e3o. Foi necess\u00e1rio organizar os servi\u00e7os, adaptar procedimentos cl\u00ednicos, capacitar profissionais de sa\u00fade, desenvolver materiais de apoio e preparar actividades comunit\u00e1rias para que as pessoas conhecessem esta nova op\u00e7\u00e3o de preven\u00e7\u00e3o.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A introdu\u00e7\u00e3o do lenacapavir nas tr\u00eas primeiras prov\u00edncias de Mo\u00e7ambique a administrar o m\u00e9todo - Maputo Cidade e Prov\u00edncia e a Zamb\u00e9zia - resultou de um trabalho conjunto entre o Minist\u00e9rio da Sa\u00fade, a Direc\u00e7\u00e3o Provincial de Sa\u00fade, os Servi\u00e7os Provinciais de Sa\u00fade e organiza\u00e7\u00f5es implementadoras, entre elas a C-Sa\u00fade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

No Centro de Sa\u00fade de Chabeco, em Quelimane, Suraia Jo\u00e3o, T\u00e9cnica de Medicina Geral e ponto focal da PrEP, acompanhou os primeiros utentes que decidiram iniciar o m\u00e9todo: \"A aceita\u00e7\u00e3o tem sido muito positiva, sobretudo entre pessoas que tinham dificuldade em manter a ades\u00e3o di\u00e1ria \u00e0 PrEP oral ou que procuravam uma alternativa mais pr\u00e1tica e discreta.\" O processo inclui aconselhamento, avalia\u00e7\u00e3o cl\u00ednica, teste de HIV e administra\u00e7\u00e3o da injec\u00e7\u00e3o e dos comprimidos que a complementam na mesma visita.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between April and June 2026, 3,488 people initiated lenacapavir across the 17 health facilities supported by C-Sa\u00fade<\/strong>, through funding from the United States Government.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For nearly two years, Isa Ant\u00f3nio, 33, used oral HIV Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) to prevent HIV infection. She knew the importance of prevention, but maintaining a daily routine was not always easy. As the head of a five-person household, including a two-year-old son, Isa belongs to a population group at higher risk of HIV exposure. It was through C-Sa\u00fade community actors and a television campaign that she first heard about lenacapavir. Curious about an alternative that eliminated the daily intake of pills, she sought more information at the Chabeco Health Centre in Quelimane. Today, she is part of the first group of people in Zamb\u00e9zia to benefit from this new form of long-acting injectable PrEP: “Now I don’t need to carry pills around or think about it every day. I receive the injection and move on with my life, knowing that I am protected.” For Isa, the change means less concern about medication, fewer visits to the health facility, and greater ease in balancing work with caring for her child and the rest of her famil With only two administrations per year, lenacapavir offers a long-acting and discreet alternative for HIV prevention. After the first injection, clients follow a short oral PrEP regimen for a total of three days until the medication reaches protective levels. From then on, each injection guarantees six months of protection. Lenacapavir has a demonstrated efficacy of over 99.9% in preventing HIV infection when used according to recommendations. It can be used by people aged 15 or older, weighing over 35 kilograms, and with a negative HIV test. A jointly built response When the first 17 health facilities began offering lenacapavir in Zamb\u00e9zia in April 2026, that moment was the result of several months of preparation. It was necessary to organize services, adapt clinical procedures, train health professionals, develop support materials, and prepare community activities so that people would know about this new prevention option. The introduction of lenacapavir in the first three provinces of Mozambique to administer the method \u2014 Maputo City, Maputo Province, and Zamb\u00e9zia \u2014 resulted from joint work between the Ministry of Health, the Provincial Directorate of Health, the Provincial Health Services, and implementing organizations, including C-Sa\u00fade. For Dr. Zafiro De Almeida, Provincial Prevention Coordinator for C-Sa\u00fade in Zamb\u00e9zia, this new modality responds to a need long identified by health services: “The introduction of Lenacapavir expands the available prevention options, offering a long-acting strategy more adapted to the needs of people for whom taking pills daily represents a challenge.” The first results Receptivity to the new method became evident in the very first weeks. At the Chabeco Health Centre in Quelimane, Suraia Jo\u00e3o, General Medicine Technician and PrEP focal point, accompanied the first clients who decided to initiate the method: “Acceptance has been very positive, especially among people who had difficulty maintaining daily adherence to oral PrEP or who were looking for a more practical and discreet alternative.” The process includes counselling, clinical evaluation, an HIV test, and the administration of the injection and complementary pills during the same visit. Between April and June 2026, 3,488 people initiated lenacapavir across the 17 health facilities supported by C-Sa\u00fade, through funding from the United States Government. An opportunity also during pregnancy and breastfeeding Lenacapavir could represent an important reinforcement of HIV prevention during pregnancy and the breastfeeding period, phases in which a new infection increases the risk of virus transmission to the baby. A review conducted by C-Sa\u00fade in the province of Zamb\u00e9zia analyzed 158 clinical files of mothers of children with a positive PCR test for HIV. Among those cases, 29 women (18%) acquired HIV after testing negative during antenatal care or at the maternity ward. These results reinforce the importance of providing effective prevention options throughout pregnancy and during breastfeeding. For Leonilde Mediasse, provincial PrEP focal point at the Provincial Directorate of Health in Zamb\u00e9zia, the success of this approach depends on the continuity of joint work between health services and implementing organizations. “It is important to highlight the role of implementers like C-Sa\u00fade, who have been alongside health services since the preparation for the introduction of lenacapavir. Support in training professionals, technical support, strengthening services, and community activities helped create the necessary conditions for quality service delivery.” The expansion of lenacapavir to other health facilities in the province will happen gradually, following drug availability and Ministry of Health guidelines. For Isa, it means being able to stay protected with an option that better fits her daily life. For health professionals, it represents another response to community needs.
