C-Saúde

Focus Areas

Health Information Systems

C-Saúde is the central partner of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) for Health Information Systems (HIS) in Mozambique. Under the strategic guidance of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the organization supports the Government of Mozambique and PEPFAR partners in developing, strengthening, implementing, and supporting HIS, with the ultimate goal of achieving control of the HIV epidemic.

Tuberculosis

In Zambezia province, where the prevalence of HIV/TB co-infection remains high, the integration of HIV and TB services is a public health priority. The Avante Program supports health facilities in providing high-quality HIV/TB clinical services. Funded by the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), it seeks to control the HIV epidemic by supporting the sustainable implementation of HIV and TB services in Zambezia province. The program is implemented by Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) and C-Saúde, working in partnership with the Government of Mozambique at all levels.

Cervical Cancer

Women living with HIV have a significantly increased risk of developing cervical cancer. Given the high incidence of HIV in Mozambique, cervical cancer screening and treatment is a priority for the Ministry of Health. C-Saúde, through CDC/PEPFAR funds, supports health facilities in Zambezia Province that provide high-quality cervical cancer screening and clinical care services, including capacity to perform loop electrosurgery (LEEP) excision procedures in referral hospitals.

HIV/AIDS

With funding from the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), C-Saúde seeks to control the HIV epidemic by supporting the sustainable implementation of services in Zambezia Province, Mozambique. It works in partnership with the Government of Mozambique at all levels — national, provincial, district, health units, and community — providing technical and financial support in human resources, infrastructure, training and mentoring, laboratory, pharmacy, program management, health information systems, and monitoring and evaluation.

Maternal and Child Health

Recognizing the vital importance of maternal and child health for the sustainable development of communities, C-Saúde, in collaboration with the Government of Mozambique, strengthens maternal and child health services, ensuring access to quality care for pregnant women, mothers, and children.

Evaluations

C-Saúde’s Department of Evaluations is composed of a team of researchers and analysts who conduct evaluations of research programs and activities. This team is responsible for generating and analysing evidence-based scientific data, synthesizing results to share with programme implementers, sponsors and policymakers on successful interventions. The work is supported by PEPFAR through the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), as well as the U.S. National Institutes of Health (NIH) and other sponsors, with a primary focus on HIV prevention, HIV and TB care and treatment. Secondary data analyses use programmatic data to assess the effectiveness of implemented strategies. Protocol-based assessments allow for the collection of primary data to generate new information aimed at enhancing existing services and improving patient outcomes.
