C-Saúde

Health Information Systems

C-Saúde is the central partner of the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) for Health Information Systems (HIS) in Mozambique. Under the strategic guidance of the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the organization supports the Government of Mozambique and PEPFAR partners in developing, strengthening, implementing, and supporting HIS, with the ultimate goal of achieving control of the HIV epidemic.
As PEPFAR's core HIS partner, C-Saúde has a strong team of locally based engineers who focus on the following strategic areas:

Electronic Patient Tracking System (EPTS)

Development and maintenance of the EPTS/SESP for the provision of HIV prevention, care and treatment services. The organization leads the development of quarterly versions of the SESP with updates to the reporting module and system improvements. Leads the harmonization of SESP databases in the country, with all instances using the same metadata, driving centralization efforts.

Pharmacy Systems

Development and maintenance of a pharmacy system called iDMED, interoperable with SESP. In partnership with the Central de Medicamentos e Artigos Médicos (CMAM), C-Saúde develops and supports this pharmacy system that is used in public health units, but also supports mobile applications of this pharmacy system that are used in private pharmacies and in the community (during mobile brigades or other community activities) to register the dispensations of antiretroviral medicines, among others.

Interoperability with Laboratory Systems

Leads the development of an interoperability solution between the electronic laboratory information system (DISA Lab) and SESP, facilitating the reporting and communication of test results to patients, including viral load, geneXpert TB, PCR (HIV DNA) and CD4).

DREAMS Layering Tool

DREAMS is a PEPFAR-funded program that aims to reduce rates of new HIV infections among adolescent girls and young women. The DREAMS Layering Tool (DLT) in Mozambique is used to register beneficiaries and document interventions received in the community, school or health facility. Through quarterly releases, the organization disseminates system improvements to all partners.

mUzima Mobile Application

C-Saúde has adapted and is currently implementing the mUzima™ mobile application, which is open source and interoperable with SESP, on a national scale to support testing in the community approach to index cases and home visits.

Mentoring

C-Saúde developed, under the leadership of MISAU, the Mentoring System that is used to record mentoring sessions for health professionals as part of ongoing training to improve the quality of care for HIV and TB programs.

Voluntary Medical Maculina Circumcision Demand Creation Application (CMMV)

In order to integrate technological tools in the community to generate demand for circumcision, C-Saúde is developing diversified tools for the self-registration of interested users to perform circumcision, highlighting the android and USSD mobile application that will be integrated into the PENSA platform (*660#) of the Ministry of Health.

Information Security

Security is a central concern in C-Saúde’s activities, and C-Saúde has a team specialized in the area of Information Security and Systems Administration. All central systems and applications supported by C-Saúde emit real-time information that is correlated with threat information, allowing the rapid identification of existing threats in the network and systems. In addition, this information collected is periodically reviewed by our experts in order to continuously improve C-Saúde’s security infrastructure. For information security, C-Saúde has created tools and procedures that allow awareness sessions to be held on the protection of patient data (whether in person or online), encryption of information on disk and when circulating on the network and procedures on how to deal with sensitive information, whether this information is in physical or digital format.
